A wet and foggy Sunday morning saw the season opener for the U14 boys away to Withycombe.
A game of firsts as the boys navigated a full size pitch.
A great start saw the boys attack with a few good phases of play and two cracking scrums with 8 forwards for the first time.
First blood was drawn by Withycombe with a converted try.
The boys held their heads high and fought on with some great tackling, pushing the opposition into touch.
Along came the first ever lineout where Dan’s precise throw saw Bryn take the ball off the top for a quick pass to the backs who pushed at pace to advance into our own territory.
Our confidence was high and we pushed to line with some amazing phases allowing Charlie to breach the Withycombe defence for our first try of the season.
Henry lined up and slotted the extra two points in our very first conversion.
A tough game saw a few injuries in the front row meaning we went uncontested in the scrums.
Followed by losing Harry in the last half to a dislocated shoulder meant we had to adapt, and the boys responded well to their new positions.
Fatigue and no finishers on the bench saw tired legs in the last ten minutes of play (and a controversial referee decision) allowing Withycombe to run over a few easy tries.
The final score was 26-7 but the boys should be super proud of a hard fought effort.
