A dominant second half performance saw Wadebridge take the honours at High House on Saturday, 7-25.
Truly a game of two halves, Kingsbridge started more brightly and were on the scoreboard within the first 10 minutes as Baldry took the ball from deep and outpaced the Wadebridge defense to score a fine solo try. Banfield adding the conversion. Kings kept up the pressure and were only held by some solid defending from the visitors, dominating the scrum and lineout, with Stuart Harris outstanding. Kings couldn’t turn the pressure into points and allowed Wadebridge back into the game with their first points coming from one of many penalties. Kings’ mistakes were beginning to cost, and just before half time, Wadebridge crossed in the corner for a try which was superbly converted to leave the score 7-10.
The second half saw Wadebridge start to assert their authority, which resulted in two Penalties, all kicked by their ever-reliable fly half. Try as they might, Kings could make no head way and somehow managed to get on the wrong side of the referee, who kept on penalising and eventually brought out his yellow card, leaving Kings with 14 men. Wadebridge took advantage with another three penalties. Kings, however, did stage a mini recovery towards the end of the game but failed to add any other points, leaving the final score 7-25.
A more spirited performance from Kings and good to see a full squad back!
