Chard RFC

22 - 7

(HT 0-0)

Kingsbridge RFC

Kingsbridge suffered yet another defeat on the road as they fell to a powerful Chard side 22-7.

Chard proved too strong for Kingsbridge as they dominated the tight and used their scrum dominance to great effect. Bullied by the Chard front row, Kings couldn’t find the answers in the first half and didn’t help themselves by conceding so many penalties, although, to be fair, they were not helped by an erratic referee whose control of the game should be questioned.

The first half was all about Chard’s forwards, who scored their first points from a pushover try after a string of penalties against Kings. Another penalty and another pushover soon followed. Kings rallied but were soon on the back foot as Rich was harshly yellowed carded for continuous infringement. So, it was no surprise that Kings lost another scrum and Chard scored through a fine chase by their winger to leave the score 19-0.

Chard started the second half strongly and were rewarded with yet another penalty extending their lead. From somewhere, Kings found the strength of character to come back into the game strongly. A couple of breaks took them close to scoring but errors in the lineout cost them ground. Not giving up, Banfield kicked a fine penalty deep into the Chard 22 and from the lineout Kings rumbled over with the hard-working Blake emerging with the ball, having touched down. A couple more efforts went close, but Kings couldn’t break down the Chard defense to leave the final score 22-7.
