KINGSBRIDGE 41 points WIVELISCOMBE 10
Kingsbridge continued their run of good form with a convincing win over Wiveliscombe at High House. Carrying on from two thumping wins over Falmouth and Honiton, they produced another try feast to climb further up the table.
Playing with a strong wind behind them, Kings looked solid from the start. With their pack definitely in the ascendancy in the tight, they controlled from the off and it was no surprise to see Greg Parrot over for the first try of the game. Wiveliscombe, under pressure, gave away a series of penalties allowing Banfield over, with Newman converting. Keeping the pressure on, Toby Baldry cut a fine angle to score try number three. The fourth came soon after, as the ever-young Glover joined a maul and forced his way over for the bonus point try before half time. Newman converted to leave the half-time score 24-0.
The second half continued much the same; the home side playing most of the rugby. A breakdown between the visitors nine and ten allowed Kings to turn the ball over and the impressive Cope, running a great line, took the ball on. Vincent was on hand to take the offload and barrel his way over. Not to be out-done, Wiveliscombe turned the ball over themselves allowing their winger to score their first points. The visitor’s return to the game forced Kings into a series of penalties, but it wasn’t enough to stop Buster James emerging from a maul to barge over the line, with Newman converting. Yet more penalties from the home side resulted in Wiveliscombe scoring out wide. From the restart, the returning Dan Jarvis took the ball well, forcing the visitors to give away a penalty, which Newman sent into the corner. From the resulting lineout, Palmer was over to leave the final score 41-10.
Certainly a confidence boosting win for Kings who will look to keep the momentum going when they face what should be sterner opposition in Newton Abbot at High House on Saturday with kick off at 2.30pm.
