Kingsbridge were made to work harder than the scoreline suggested as they beat Falmouth 14-32. Falmouth, languishing near the bottom of the table, proved a more difficult opponent than many had thought. It might be this that made the Kings performance so disjointed. Often good, but also wasteful on occasions. Tries were begging as the last pass went astray, or not made at all.
Kingsbridge got away to a good start as Joe Banfield, playing his best game of the season, broke clear with a mazy run to put Freddie Buckle in for the visitor’s first points. Showing that they were not going to be a pushover, Falmouth came straight back, scoring a converted try after Kings failed to gather the re-start. Good play from King’s backs put Freddie Buckle in for his second. Kingsbridge squandered a host of chances but eventually they freed Stuart Harris, playing out of position on the wing, to score out wide leaving the half-time score 7-15.
Falmouth started the second half strongly, and poor tackling from Kings allowed them to score under the posts to narrow the gap to one point. Kings raised their game after that, and Joe Banfield forced his way over to secure the bonus point try. Banfield was back on the score sheet as Falmouth were reduced to 14 after a deliberate knock-on. With the home side down, Kings piled on the pressure and another clean break saw Joe Banfield carve an opening for Powell to run in with a hint of a dummy to seal the victory, with George Banfield converting.
A game where Kingsbridge should have scored a lot more points, but again will take the victory on their now impressive unbeaten run!
Kingsbridge return to action at High House on Saturday where they will entertain Honiton with kick off at 2.30 pm.
