Rugby Football was brought to Kingsbridge by local students returning from schools and universities in 1888. The idea of forming a club took months to develop but was finally realised for the 1889-90 season when a newcomer to the town provided a ball. The Club moved to its current home at High House in 1923 after playing at four different locations around Kingsbridge. The opportunity to purchase the field arose and by 1926 the Club Officials had raised enough money to not only purchase the field but also erect a 102 seater grandstand. In 1932 changing rooms were built under the grandstand and they were then extended three years later to accommodate the increase in the number of fixtures the Club was attracting. In the same year the players decided to change the colour of their jerseys from the old black and red to an all white jersey with the new Club badge and blue shorts. Over the next eighty five years the Club has stuck to blue and white as the Club colours, although the combination has frequently changed. A project to level the pitch at High House was started in 1946 and the ground was re-opened in 1948. The Clubhouse was created in 1953 to enable visiting teams to be entertained post match at the ground rather than travelling into the town to visit the Albion Hotel. These facilities were improved once again in 1968 and the old Club room and timber stand were demolished and a new Clubhouse built on the foundations.
Throughout the Club's history there is a recurring theme of a 'band of enthusiasts' from the local community who have fund raised for various Club projects and have kept Kingsbridge RFC going forward through all the peaks and troughs of it's life.
